At Gathering Futures, our vision is a world where creative resistance and self-expression is nurtured and cultivated in communities of care.
Our Mission:
We believe that creativity, collaboration, and a commitment to people can produce lasting change. By bridging gaps between disciplines, we strive to build spaces where communities and practitioners can gather to realise new possible futures.
Since transnational problems require transnational solidarity, we aim to stimulate transnational connection and collaboration.
Through our creative projects, trainings, and communities of practice, we aim to bring people together to support struggles for social change.
Who Are We?
Gathering Futures co-founders/directors Rory and Erika met at a Community Music conference in Finland and connected over their shared ideas around activist-scholarship and praxis.
Those values, together with an emphasis on the importance of collective and self-determination in community inform their practices as community builders, participatory researchers, and community musicians, which inspired the conception of Gathering Futures.
Erika Severyns
Co-Founder and Director
Erika is a researcher, singer-songwriter, and community musician with a passion for developing new worlds and imagining in communities through arts and awareness raising.
Rory Wells
Co-Founder and Director
Rory is a community developer, community musician/artist, coproduction practitioner, and participatory researcher whose practices are connected by a commitment to asset/strengths-based practice and an emphasis on community leadership as power redistribution.
